Renovating in LaSalle
LaSalle grew fast over the last few decades, and many of its houses were built from the 1980s onward by production builders. That shapes the work we see most often here: builder-grade kitchens ready for an upgrade, unfinished basements waiting to become living space, and first bathrooms that are now 20 or 30 years old. Closer to the Detroit River and along Front Road you will also find older and custom homes with their own needs.
Popular projects in LaSalle homes
- Basement finishing. Many LaSalle basements were left unfinished by the builder. Good ceiling height in newer houses makes them ideal for a family room, a guest bedroom and a bathroom.
- Kitchen upgrades. Replacing original oak or laminate cabinets, adding an island and quartz counters, and opening the kitchen to the family room.
- Ensuite renovations. Swapping a corner jetted tub for a large walk-in shower is one of the most common requests in houses of this age.
- Flooring. Replacing carpet on main floors and stairs with vinyl plank or hardwood.
- Additions and sunrooms on the larger lots.
Permits in LaSalle
Building permits in LaSalle are issued by the Town of LaSalle, not the City of Windsor. The rules follow the same Ontario Building Code, but the application, fees and inspections go through the Town's building department. We prepare the drawings and file with the Town when your project needs a permit. For properties near the river, the Essex Region Conservation Authority may also need to review the work.
